This collection comprises images and GIS data from an archaeological watching brief carried out by Cotswold Archaeology in May and June 2022 during groundworks associated with the construction of a car port with solar panels at the Tewkesbury Borough Council offices, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.
The watching brief involved the observation of the excavation of 13 foundations for the stanchions that support the Solar Photovoltaic Canopy and 3 cable runs to connect the canopy to the Council Offices and Leisure Centre. In most of the observed excavations, pre 1970s deposits had been removed, and the surface of the natural substrate had been truncated, most probably during the construction of the Council Offices themselves in the late 1970s.
However, in one of the foundation pits excavated in the northeastern part of the site a deposit containing a small quantity of pottery of 12th to 16th-century date was observed. The function of this deposit is unclear; however, it may represent a demolition deposit broadly contemporary to the occupation of Holm Castle.
