This collection comprises text, image, spreadsheet and GIS data from a trial trenching evaluation at Watling Street, Hints, Lichfield, Staffordshire. The work was undertaken by Connect Archaeology between 2018 and 2023.

Project Summary

A trial trenching evaluation on land off Watling Street, Hints, Staffordshire was carried out during 2018. 22 trial trenches were excavated in order to test the area for any surviving archaeological features, particularly those that may relate to the former roman road at Watling Street. No early archaeological features were identified during the evaluation with only post-medieval drainage being recorded across the site.

Re-Use Value Statement

The Watling Street evaluation can be considered as part of the wider HS2 archive and as such has re-use value.
