This collection comprises reports, images, spreadsheets, GIS data, and site records from a trial trenching evaluation conducted at Stoney Thorpe, Southam, Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, as part of HS2 Phase One. Undertaken by Connect Archaeology between January and February 2020, the excavation involved 14 trenches, revealing furrows and plough scars associated with medieval and post-medieval agricultural activity. Additionally, a modern pit was recorded. The site is located adjacent to Stoney Thorpe Deserted Medieval Village, and the work formed part of the enabling works for HS2.
The Stoney Thorpe trial trenching evaluation can be considered as part of the wider HS2 archive and as such has re-use value.
The site has value on its own as it identified medieval and post-medieval agricultural activity. This evidence contributes to the corpus of such sites in Britain.
