Introduction

Data from a Building Survey at Field Cottage, Fradley and Streethay, Lichfield, Staffordshire, 2020-2023 (HS2 Phase One)

This collection comprises reports, images, spreadsheets, GIS files and photogrammetric 3D models from a historic building recording carried out by Cotswold Archaeology, Oxford Archaeology, and Pre-Construct Archaeology (COPA) at Field Cottage, Fradley and Streethay, Lichfield, Staffordshire from October 2020 to October 2022.

Project Summary

COPA were commissioned by Laing O'Rourke and J. Murphy & Sons Ltd (LM-JV) to carry out historic building and setting recording prior to the demolition of Field Cottage as part of the enabling works programme for the HS2 project in the Community Forum Area CFA22 Whittington to Handsacre. This work was undertaken in accordance with the Location Specific Written Scheme of Investigation and the Project Plan. COPA carried out external and internal photographic surveys of the cottage and its setting on 14th October 2020. The cottage was recorded to Level 3 as defined by Historic England, and the record included dendrochronological analysis.

Re-Use Value Statement

The projects of Historic Building Recording and Demolition Integrated Recording were successful in obtaining an accurate record of the character and form of the cottage and its context including a photographic survey, laser-scanned plans, and dendrochronological analysis of the building. The record created equates to a Level 3 record, as defined by Historic England, and will contribute to an understanding of post-medieval vernacular architecture within the region.
