This digital archive comprises images, geophysics, report, spreadsheet, CAD, GIS and site record data from a geophysical survey and trial trenching at Burton Green and Coleshill Manor, Warwichshire, 2018 - 2023.
The trial trenching at Burton Green revealed that the majority of the trenches were archaeologically negative, with only four (trenches 995, 997, 9915 and 9921) identifying archaeological remains. The remains consisted of a pit (trench 995), a field boundary ditch (trench 997), a clay extraction pit (trench 9915) and a possible hollow way with flanking ditches (trench 9921). A single sherd of post medieval black-glazed redware with a probable date range of 17th–19th century was retrieved from hollow way 992108.
The trial trenching at Coleshill Manor revealed that a majority of the trenches were archaeologically negative, with only five (trenches 5, 6, 7, 11 and 12) identifying archaeological remains. The remains consisted of linear ditches present in trenches 5, 6, 7, 11 and 12. Three ditches (trenches 6, 11 and 12) produced Romano‐British ceramics. An undated curvilinear ditch was evident in trench 12 and thought to continue through the northern extent of trench 7. Environmental evidence indicated crops were processed in the vicinity of trench 12, suggesting the ditches identified during the evaluation may be related to, or on the periphery of, an area of settlement activity.
