The archive comprises reports, images, CAD data, spreadsheets, GIS data and site records created during the 2018 Wessex Archaeology Evaluation at Balsall Common, Warwickshire and the subsequent post-excavation assessment and analysis.
The Aims and Objectives of the Project was to undertake an archaeological evaluation of the site at Balsall Common, Warwickshire. With the aim of identifying any archaeological remains prior to construction work for HS2 commencing on-location.
The site, approximately 13.3ha in size, is located to the northwest of the village of Balsall Common within a rural, partially wooded landscape. The Evaluation revealed that a majority of the trenches were archaeologically negative, with only trenches 1, 4, 6 and 13 identifying potential remains. The remains consisted of modern features and debris in trench 1, a gully in trench 4, a gully and two postholes in trench 6 and bioturbation in trench 13. Other than the modern material from trench 1, no finds were recovered during the evaluation and so the identified features in trenches 4 and 6 remain undated.
