The archive collection comprises downloadable databases and spreadsheets on different Anglo-Saxon clothing accessories and jewellery from three research projects.

The projects each provide a catalogue of glass beads, girdle-hangers, and cruciform brooches recovered from various Anglo-Saxon burial sites, as potential research and teaching resources for students and academics.

Potential for Re-Use

While each database can be used as assignment or research material at University level, data from this collection can also be evaluated together to draw conclusions on the funerary customs, economy, fashion, and the social and religious life in Anglo-Saxon Britain. Thus, parts of the datasets, such as girdle-hanger illustrations, can be integrated into history and archaeology lessons, especially at a primary education level, as part of the “Britain’s settlement by Anglo-Saxons” in Key Stage 2 curriculum.
