Introduction

Bushey Flatt Farm, Stanhope, County Durham. Historic Building Survey (OASIS ID: allenarc1-381668)

Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned to undertake a programme of historic building recording as a condition of planning consent for the alteration and extension of an existing farm building to form a dwelling, at Bushey Flatt Farm, Stanhope, County Durham.

The building surveyed comprises a two-storey stone structure with two small stone extensions to the northeast and northwest elevations, and a timber lean-to on the northwest elevation. The two-storey structure is likely to have been present since the later 19th century, with the smaller extensions probably added a short time later.

The interior is partitioned with a series of stalls to house animals on the ground floor, with the first floor probably used for storage.

The survey has allowed for the buildings to be preserved by record prior to alteration.
