Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Dressel 2-4 Lyon 2

Distinctive Features

This type has two variants. Lyon 2A is more similar to the eastern Mediterranean Koan version with arched bifid handles, a high shoulder, broad ovoid body and short hollow spike. Lyon 2B is modelled more on the Italian version of the Koan form, the Dressel 2-4, with a carinated shoulder, cylindrical body and stumpy solid or sometimes hollow spike (Desbat, 2003). However, the handles are mostly pseudo-bifid rather than true bifid (Desbat 2003).

Date Range

Augustan to early first century AD.

Origin

Both variants were made at Lyon. An example from of Type 2A found at Lyon was stamped FLAVIUS FEC(IT). Type 2B was made at the workshop of La Muette (Desbat & Picon, 1986; Desbat, 1987; 2003). Chemical analysis confirms a local source (Becker, 1986). Other Dressel 2-4 forms were made at Marseilles and Sainte-Cécile.

Distribution
