Sherds from the kilns at El Rinconcillo, near Algeciras, are soft and powdery with a sandy texture containing occasional soft white inclusions, and are commonly reddish-buff (between 2.5YR 6/6 and 5/6) in colour.
Thin sectioning shows the material from El Rinconcillo has frequent well-rounded and fairly well-sorted grains of quartz, sometimes polycrystalline, with occasional pieces of metaquartzite and fine-grained schist; the latter composed of biotite, quartz and iron ore (Peacock, 1974; Peacock & Williams, 1986: Class 14).
