Hard, reddish buff fabric with a creamy outer surface (10YR, 7/4). There are numerous inclusions of rounded limestone up to 3 mm across.
Scatter of subangular quartz and potash feldspar grains up to about 0.75 mm across, together with crystalline limestone, foraminifera and occasional lava fragments. The inclusions are set in an optically anisotropic matrix, with a sparse scatter of quartz grains up to about 0.05 mm across (Peacock & Williams, 1986: Class 50).
