The fabric is generally hard to medium hard, fairly coarse grained sandy, and red-brown (Munsell 2.5YR 4/6) in colour to a red fabric (2.5YR 5/6), sometimes with a grey-brown core, especially in the handle (Arthur,1998: 170; Saguì, 2001).
One example from Carminiello ai Mannesi (Naples) had plentiful flecks of mica, both muscovite and biotite, quartz, large grains of quartzite, a little plagioclase and potash feldspar and fragments of a schistose rock.
