Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Haltern 70 fabric

Fabric Visual Characteristics

A hard, rough fabric, buff (7.5YR 7/4) with numerous white and colourless inclusions. This fabric is very similar to that of Dressel 20, which can make the identification of small featureless body sherds difficult. However, body sherds of Haltern 70 are usually noticeably thinner (av. 1-1.5 cm) than those of Dressel 20, and because of the smaller body diameter, also display a tighter curve than the latter on account of its more globular form. Similar to the Dressel 20, Marismas and Cádiz fabrics.

Fabric Petrological Characteristics

Thin sectioning shows a similar range of inclusions to Dressel 20, namely large grains of quartz, quartzite, potash and a little plagioclase feldspar, together with fragments of quartzite, sandstone, chert, limestone and quartz-mica-schist (Peacock & Williams, 1986: Class 15). Heavy mineral separation has produced an assemblage rich in garnet (Peacock, 1971).
