Introduction
The data presented here form part of the Historic England funded regional review series, which summarise and disseminate the current extent of knowledge of the animal bone record within England. This dataset was produced as part of the review into the zooarchaeology of Saxon, medieval and post-medieval sites from southern England, including published and unpublished assemblages of mammal, bird and fish bones. This is a freely available, fully searchable resource including 656 records from 323 sites within southern England.
Data include: counts and frequency of species and anatomical elements; sex and age profiles; sample data; and summaries of butchery and metrical information.
