Visiting Fellowships for scholars from the former Soviet Union

In the 1996/97 financial year, the Foreign Office approved a grant to the Academy of £45,000 to support a scheme of eighteen Visiting Fellowships for young scholars from the former Soviet Union. The scheme is designed to offer young scholars the opportunity to spend a month or more in Britain working on their private research, located in an appropriate academic centre and research environment, with suitable library or other facilities and opportunities for developing fruitful working contacts with colleagues. It is hoped that support will be obtained for similar schemes in the 1997/98 financial year.
