Introduction

Cavalier Tavern, St Georges Lane, Worcester, Worcestershire. Archaeological Excavation. (OASIS ID: cotswold2-282185)

An archaeological excavation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in July 2016 at Cavalier Tavern, St Georges Lane North, Worcester, Worcestershire.

No features of Roman date were recorded, though residual Roman pottery was recovered from a number of later features.

A linear feature at the north of the site contained artefacts of 16th to 18th century date. Due to extensive modern truncation it is unclear what function the feature served, but it is on balance likely to be early modern in date.

Evidence of modern activity was identified in the north and west of the site where three pits, two postholes, and two possible construction/demolition cuts were recorded.

The substantial modern disturbance and truncation identified across the site precluded pre-early modern rchaeological asset survival across much of the site.
