Introduction

Land at Junction 24 East, Bridgwater, Somerset. Archaeological Evaluation (OASIS ID: cotswold2-350874)

In November 2018, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land to the east of Junction 24 of the M5, near Bridgwater, Somerset. A total of 30 trenches were excavated at the site. A concentration of Early/Middle Bronze Age ditches and pits was recorded in the central part of the site, corresponding to a series of rectilinear and sub-circular enclosures noted by a previous geophysical survey. Activity in the northern and southern areas of the site was less extensive, although limited prehistoric ditches were recorded in these areas. Several post-medieval/modern ditches corresponding to historic field boundaries were also noted.
