Introduction

Evesham Fire Station, Worcestershire: Site visit report (OASIS ID: Fieldsec1-243139; fieldsec1-401937)

Worcestershire Archaeology were asked to attend Evesham Fire Station, Abbey Road, Evesham (NGR SP 0331 4335; WSM 67622). following the reporting of a large animal trough being found on site. This appeared after moving site cabins and demolition of the existing brick boundary wall. The site had been archaeologically monitored previously, with a report produced (Arnold 2016, WSM 67622) but this area was not within the original area requiring monitoring. The trough had been reused in the footings of the brick boundary wall of Abbey Road depot and was filled with ash and encased in concrete. It was discovered directly. The trough was made out of granite and measured 2.90m long, 0.66m wide and 0.44m high. He internal trough was 2.50m long, 0.44m wide and 0.30m deep, with grooves for metal grates and some iron fixings still visible. There was also a hole for drainage at either end of the trough.
