Worcestershire Archaeology is part of Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service. We undertake a wide range of projects within Worcestershire and neighbouring areas. These include excavation and survey projects, building surveys, desk-based assessments and strategic management projects. Work has been commissioned by a number of local authorities, national organisations such as English Heritage and a wide range of private developers. The section includes specialists in urban and rural archaeology, finds work, display and environmental archaeology. Worcestershire Archaeology is able to deliver a professional service in all aspects of fieldwork whether environmental assessment, watching briefs, salvage recording, evaluation, excavation or building recording. It has its own finds and environmental specialists and is able to supply qualified geophysical survey teams on a sub- contract basis. The illustration team is also able to deliver a full illustration and design service.

Deposition of our all our grey literature is in progress. Meanwhile our complete Online Archaeology Library can be consulted online.

Research using our grey literature reports can be enhanced by combining this data with an HER search. The Historic Environment Record (HER) is the county of Worcestershire's primary source for archaeological and historic environment information. We hold over 30,000 records of heritage assets which encompass all aspects of Worcestershire's archaeology and historic environment, including historic buildings, monuments, artefacts and landscape features (such as evidence of field systems, DMVs, moated sites, and crop mark evidence of prehistoric/Roman settlements). Resources such as aerial photographs, historic mapping and LiDAR are also available. The HER includes a suite of landscape characterisation data sets, including Historic Landscape Characterisation and Historic Farmsteads data. Other enhancements include an HER Finds and environmental Index, palaeolithic data and mapping of small wetland sites. Our Archive Service may also hold records of use for your research.
