Full Record - Mission Hall (PRN: 10080)

PRN10080
Site or location nameMission Hall
Summary
DescriptionCorrugated iron mission hall used as a 'Soldiers Welcome' during both World Wars. There were two cinemas opened in the town during the Great War. Ludgershall was a railhead and depot for the training camps on Salisbury Plain. Pastscape states 'A Methodist chapel, `Tin tabernacle', built in 1904 by Henry Tasker. The hall was registered as a place of worship in 1921 by the Ludgershall Evangelical Mission. It was extended and/or replaced after 1936. The building under consideration is constructed of corrugated iron sheets, the roof being supported by king-post trusses. The north-facing entrance front has a plain corrugated iron porch flanked by windows; the side elevations are of five bays. All the windows, and the door, have been replaced. The subsidiary hall also has a plain porch. The building was assessed for listing in 2010 but failed to meet the required criteria.
