Summary
DescriptionColston Hall, located on Colston Street, Bristol was used throughout the First World War to support the local war effort. At the outbreak of war in August 1914, Coltson Hall was requisitioned to act as a recruitment office and temporary billet for newly recruited volunteers. Colston Hall was also used as a billet to house Scottish soldiers during the winter of 1914 to 1915. Fund raising events were held at Colston Hall throughout the war, including a performances by Bristol-born opera singer Dame Clara Butt. Free seats were provided for wounded soldiers receiving treatment in Bristol's hospitals during concerts at the Hall.
