Description | Cylindrical brick castemate rendered with concrete with iron shielded loopholes built around 1905 to spot submarines. Fitted with a 1-pounder pom-pom anti-aircraft gun in the First World War on its room. Alongside another AA pom-pom at the Purfleet powder works, it shot down a Zeppelin L15 on the 31st of March 1916 whilst manned by gunners of 3 Company, Essex and Suffolk Royal Garrison Artillery. | ||||
