DescriptionThis was the locations for the Military Camp complex known as Sutton Mandeville, Fovant & Compton Chamberlayne. Units based here at various times were: March-July 1915 Oxford and Bucks Pioneers Royal Engineers 78th Brigade 26th Division Army Service Corps Berkshires Worcestershires Gloucestershires August 1915-January 1916 31st Yorkshire Division 31st Divisional Artillery 15th, 16th and 18th Battalions West Yorks Durham Light Infantry RO Yeomanry 31st Division Training Battalion, RE East Yorks January-may 1916 4th, 6th and 9th City of London Regiment Post Office Rifles London Rifle Brigade 3rd Queen Victoria Rifles 7th City of London Regiment (Shiny Seventh) 1st, 2nd,11th and 12th Wessex Divisional Training, ASC August 1916 The London battalions were amalgamated and the camps occupied by Australians January-March 1917 Units of the 59thDivision, (Lincolnshires, Leicestershires, Sherwood Foresters, Notts and Derbyshires) March 1917 Australian Units Oxford and Bucks Training Battalion Berkshires Dorset Training Battalion Warwickshires. Primary groupings included Field Artillery, ASC, Engineers, AMC (Hospital) and infantry. The units here were responsible for the digging of the Fovant Badges which are visible form the A30 [Inputers Note: It was form here that the last surviving British Solider, Harry Patch, was discharged after the war]'
