Full Record - Forleys Park, Selkirk (PRN: 11489)

PRN11489
Site or location nameForleys Park, Selkirk
Summary
DescriptionOrientation and Shapes: Rectangular structure with long sides facing north-east and south-west and gable ends facing south-east and north-west. Dimensions: North-east facing side 18.38 metres, south-west facing side 18.48 metres, south-east facing side 6.27 metres and north-west facing side 6.39 metres. Features: There are 4 original 'hopper'-style windows and 2 modern-style windows north-east facing, 3 original 'hopper'-style windows south-west facing and 2 blocked-off windows south-east facing. Internally a toilet has been added at the south-east of the structure. The door and a modern window are north-west facing and a sliding door has been added to the south-east. Function and Phasing: The building was moved to Philiphaugh in June 1960. It was re-erected at Forleys Park in the late 1980s (possibly 1989). The south-east section floor has been dropped and concreted. A sliding door (possibly from a mill in Selkirk) has been added to the south-east wall. This section is used as a loosebox and storage for hay and straw. The structure's middle section is used as a joiner's store. All of the original construction is visible. The north-west end of the building was used as a site office when new houses were being built at Forleys Field. Two rooms were added with new internal walls, floors and ceilings. These now obscure the original structure. The windows have been replaced in this section and a small kitchen has been added. Modern water and electric supplies have also been added. Roofing: The building has a pitched roof and is constructed from corrugated iron. There are no obvious vents or chimneys.'
