Description | Operational from January 1916 initially with two B.E 2c's. Five sorties launched to defend against Zeppelin and Gotha bombers. Fleet expanded to include Spotwith Pups and Camel's, Avro 504's and Bristol Fighters. Buildings and hangars constructed to a size larger than Stow Maries. Airfield used to develop aerial bombing techniques. Post WW1 was a major Training airfield. HRH Prince Albert (George VI) and HRH Prince of Wales received flying training here in 1919' | ||||
