Summary | Hen Capel Moreia
Description | 'http://www.welshchapels.org/search/nprn/8781 shows 'Hen Capel Methodist Chapel was first built during the late eighteenth century and and rebuilt as the present Capel Moreia in 1836. Although greatly modified the chapel looks like it was built in the later Vernacular style with a short-wall entry plan. By 1999 Moreia was in use as a garage sales department and frontage as a sales forecourt. High hipped slate roof (re-slated). Walls of stone under painted modern rough render. No original openings visible externally. Interior remains almost intact above ground floor height, hidden by modern false ceiling. Brown painted plaster ceiling - 5 roundels with acanthus leaves: one central and one in each corner. Moulded cornice. Painted plastered walls. 3 blocked segmental windows to each wall, with incised beaded chamfer to outer edge of window reveals. Forecourt now taken by garage hard-standing.' Chapel associated with the Calvinist firebrand Rev.John Elias who had moved to live in the town with his second-wife, Lady Jane Bulkeley. After the land owner refused to renew the lease, the building became Drill Hall around 1897. Royal Welch Fusiliers (H Company) drill station.
