PRN22273
Site or location nameListening Post
Summary
DescriptionThe walls are rough rendered concrete and was used to amplify any sound of aircrafts that may have been crossing the North Sea from mainland Europe. The Listening Post is a 4m high 3 walled structure. The back wall has a circular concave indent (3m radius) that originally housed a concave mirror. The post is set in a small well maintained area of grass within a low wooden railing. A metre in front of the concave back wall is a small stone which marks the site of the microphone post. There is a small plaque giving brief details of its history and function. The area behind the post is uncultivated scrubland. The post lies on the 50ft contour and faces NNE towards the North Sea, which is approximately a mile away. The site is adjacent to the first houses in Holyhead drive, a housing estate built in the early 1990s. '
