Full Record - Redcar Literary Institute (PRN: 22302)

PRN22302
Site or location nameRedcar Literary Institute
Summary
DescriptionListed under 'Accommodation of Troops' and possibly 'Stores' as 'Literary Institute, High Street' There is an 'Inst.' shown adjacent to the Queen's Hotel on the OS 1914-15 1:2500 map. It is thought that the current site for Redcar and Coatham Literary Institute is besides the original site. Only the front of this building can be accessed. The building is one storey with a double pitched roof. It appears as the building has since been redeveloped and is made with slate. The walls are a redbrick in the form of English Garden Wall Bond and are bound together with mortar. The building has three windows next to each other which are a recent addition as an arched hole has been blocked up since. The building is currently not in use, but is attached to the modern build and the current literary institute. It is unknown as to whether this is the actual original building, however the new site for the literary institute is adjacent to this location.'
