Full Record - Royal Hotel (PRN: 22303)

PRN22303
Site or location nameRoyal Hotel
Summary
DescriptionListed under 'Accommodation of Troops'. The building is on the corner of Esplanade and is still used as a Hotel. It has three storeys and appears to be slightly raised above ground level. Its roof is a double pitch tile with one brick chimney stack on the left. On top of the stack are twelve pots. The walls of the building are brick that have been painted with a cream / white. On the right there are at least two brick chimneys. – Number of pots are difficult to determine. At the front of the building there is a single door entrance with a single glass pane above the door. There are steps leading up to the door which are made of brick. To the left of the door is a bay window with three panes of glass in it. To the left of the door is a larger bay window with six panes of glass within it. Above these bays and across the door is wooden panelling with the text, ‘Royal Hotel’ on it. On the second storey there are four single sash windows evenly spread across the storey. Between the two on the left, the words ‘Royal Hotel’ appear on the side of the building. On the third storey there are a further four single sash windows evenly spaced out. To the right of the building an extension has been since added. This is only two storeys. On both storeys there is a bay window with three glass panes in it. On the right of the extension there is a single entrance which has recently been added. To the left of these are two sash windows, and to the right of the door are two bay windows. On the second storey there are five sash windows that are evenly spaced. This build was probably added at a later date to accommodate more individuals. The roof on this building is single pitched which leans against the main building. On the left side of the hotel there is a single door entrance on the left hand side. To the right of the door there are two sash windows followed by three bay windows (identical to those on the front of the hotel). The second storey has six single sash windows that are spread across this floor. This is a standalone building and appears to have been used continuously as a hotel since it was built.'
