Full Record - McAdam's Garage (PRN: 22308)

PRN22308
Site or location nameMcAdam's Garage
Summary
DescriptionListed under 'Mechanical Transport' as 'Middlesburgh'. The garage was located at the corner of Linthorpe Road and Kensington Road. It would appear that his building had two storeys, however only one storey may now remain. On the Kensington Road Site: Currently a garage. Brick with mortar bond. These are arranged in a Flemish bond, but there are no short heads on the facing wall. There are three large windows, however these are not the original windows. There is also one door, again not the original. The rest of the entrances (windows and doors) have been blocked up. The second storey would have had approximately 8 windows, however these have also been blocked up. The roof is flat. On the corner, the One Stop Shop now occupies the site. The first storey is no longer the original make up of the building. Similarly, the windows on the second storey have also now changed. There is a larger brick tower on where the original entrance to the building (on the corner) would have been located. On the Linthorpe Road side, there is a new shop front which is not original and a door to the left of this. This is a wooden door with no windows. Above this on the second storey is a window, but not original. Above the shop front is a balcony. It is possible that this building has always been used as the same form. According to the War Office lists, this building was used as a garage. To the rear of the building it is still used as a garage.
