Summary | |||||
Description | Canmore shows 'A large drill hall is marked on the 3rd epoch OS 1:2500 map (surveyed 1913, published 1921) and the 4th epoch 6-inch map (surveyed 1938). The building is still in use as a community centre with the addition of a modern flat-roofed block and further extensions at the rear and on one side. The original, high roofed hall survives behind with four pitched-roof bays to one side. Osborne (2006, page 284) records 'F' Company, 7th battalion Black Watch and the base of Fife Battery, 2nd Highland Brigade Royal Field Artillery as being based in Leven in 1914. But as there was another drill hall in Leven, on North Street it is not clear which unit was based where in 1914.' Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 24 June 2013. | ||||
