DescriptionCanmore gives 'The Bruce Street drill hall (now Bruce Hall, not to be confused with Bruce Hall drill hall in Elgin Street (see NT08NE 484)) appears on both 2nd and 3rd epoch Ordnance Survey 1:2500 maps. It was built in 1866-8 in 'institutional Gothic', designed by Andrew Scobie. Confusion over the two drill halls in Dunfermline means that it is difficult to know which unit was based where: in 1914 the Dunfermline drill halls housed 'B' Squadron, Fife and Forfar Yeomanry, HQ, a battery and the ammunition column for the Highland Royal Garrison Artillery, and the base for 'A' Company, 7th battalion Black Watch, and the base of 'E' Company Highland Cyclist Battalion.
