Full Record - Dunfermline (Bruce House) Drill Hall (PRN: 276)

PRN276
Site or location nameDunfermline (Bruce House) Drill Hall
Summary
DescriptionCanmore gives 'The 'Bruce House' drill hall in Elgin Street (not to be confused with the Bruce Street Hall drill hall in Bruce Street, to the north, see NT08NE 348), comprises a Gillespie & Scott front block (1911-12) with an added upper floor with and adjoining staff house with segmental pedimented gable. Confusion over the two or three drill halls in Dunfermline means that it is difficult to know which unit was based where: in 1914 the Dunfermline drill halls housed 'B' Squadron, Fife and Forfar Yeomanry, HQ, a battery and the ammunition column for the Highland Royal Garrison Artillery, and the base for 'A' Company, 7th battalion Black Watch, and the base of 'E' Company Highland Cyclist Battalion. The building is still in military use. Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 24 June 2013.'
