PRN299
Site or location nameDuns Drill Hall
SummaryVolunteer Hall
DescriptionCanmore gives 'The Langtongate drill hall was marked on the 2nd and 3rd epoch OS maps of the area. The hall was built in 1895 for the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers. In 1914 it was the base for 'D' Company, 4th battalion KOSB and drill station for 'A' Squdron, Lothian & Borders Horse. The hall (which was still in use as a Territorial Army Centre in 2009) has a symmetrically-arranged, three-bayed gable to the street, with a KOSB crest on the attic level. The door has been obscured by an ugly modern porch. Five-bayed hall behind. Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 29 October 2013.'
