Description | Just offshore beneath Carlingnose Point is a steel jetty used for loading mines onto submarines in WW1. It was connected to the shore by a concrete ramp, now removed. Also protected by a pillbox, also removed. On the cliffs above, and 50 yards east of the gun battery, is a contemporary concrete minefield control bunker, now sitting on private land. The jetty is part of a nature reserve and used for bird roosting. | ||||
