Summary
DescriptionGerman submarine U-90 surfaced on 15 May 1918 firing 72 shells to destroy the radio mast and resulting in associated damage to buildings in the settlement but no casualties. In response a 4' Mark III naval gun was installed. The foundations and associated buildings were constructed by local men under the supervision of A Nesbit, Chargeman of Bricklayers, HM Dockyard, Rosyth. The gun was never fired in anger.
