SummaryOriginally 210 Well Hall Road
Description210 Well Hall Road (now 290) was hit by a bomb during an air raid on the night of 24/25 August 1916. Three members of the Allen family (Frederick, Ann, and Gladys), along with their lodger Ellen Funnel, were killed when a High Explosive bomb dropped by Zeppelin L.31 hit the building. The family were buried in the nearby St John the Baptist church, their memorial being erected by colleagues from Woolwich Arsenal. Ellen Funnel is buried nearby. The building has since been rebuilt along the lines of the original structure.
