Summary
DescriptionCoaching inn on the High Street with yard to rear accessed by coach arch on Cross Street. In early August 1914 horses were brought to the yard to be inspected by army veterinary staff. The horses were brought back a couple of days later and handed over to the army who assembled the horses in the Market Square. Only one of the horses 'Polly' returned after the end of hostilities. The event was marked in August 2015 as part of the 'Cheadle Remembers the War Horse' to recreate the original photographs. With thanks to Cheadle Discovery Group for the archive photograph.
