Description | Nos.171 & 173 Cottingham Road, grand Victorian middle class suburban housing dating from the mid-19th century. Originally two houses known as The Cedars and Brooklands respectively. Distinctive and attractive use of 'white' bricks with red brick dressings. Now The Dennison Centre, University of Hull's conference and training facilities. J.R.R.Tolkien, author of 'The Hobbit' and 'Lord of the Rings' was a patient here in 1917 and June 1918 with gastriitis when the building was Brooklands Officers' Hospital. | ||||
