Summary4th Southern General Hospital
DescriptionLarge three storey stone built institutional blocks with red stone facings to windows now used as a primary school. The Territorial Force unit was mobilised on Declaration of War and the 520 bed hospital opened on 20th August equipped with an operating theatre and X-ray equipment. The first 102 casualties arrived on the 21st August followed by a further 132 on 25th September including 14 Germans. By October the hospital had over 400 patients.
