Text | Work by S. Turner, I. Howell and D. Sorapure supplemented previous investigations to determine the location and surviving extent of the City Wall and Ditch. The cut of the City Ditch was discovered in both trenches to a depth of 8.82-8.54 m OD, and successive layers of deposits were excavated. The medieval evidence consisted of pottery found within some of these ditch fills; however, there were comparatively few finds, suggesting frequent clearing of the ditch and episodes of re-cutting. |
