Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Introduction

This database consists of data for all the Mesolithic sites in England and Wales derived from the Gazetteer of Mesolithic sites in England and Wales (Wymer and Bonsall, 1977), issued as a Council for British Archaeology Research Report, along with a gazetteer of Upper Palaeolithic sites. The database includes a list of mistakes noted while checking the gazetteer, some of these existed in the original paper document, whilst others are the result of the digitising process in online (PDF) version of the report. The author has attempted to correct these mistakes and they are listed in a table at the end of the database notes.

(Original Data Copyright © Council for British Archaeology & the authors (Wymer & Bonsall, 1977), with significant changes and corrections by Charles Whyte).

Users of this resource may also like to note that the database of Upper Palaeolithic data is also available as an ADS archive.
