Hays Storage Services Ltd, Dagenham (DA-HS 93)

Overview

The site is located in the container yard of Hays Storage Services Ltd., Pooles Lane, Ripple Road, Dagenham, Essex. Two trenches were dug, one of which contained evidence of anthropogenic activity. This trench consisted of an approximately 1.5m depth of peat deposits overlying an alluvial sandy silt. Near the top of this peat is a causeway running NNE/SSW constructed from gravel, burnt flint and sand. Also within the peat are fallen alder and yew trees. The peat is sealed by clay alluvium above which is a soil horizon that slopes down to the east.
