An archaeological evaluation took place on the site lying between Milk Street and Woodman Street, North Woolwich, London E16. The excavation aimed to
A single trench was excavated and 18 contexts identified and recorded. The excavation revealed archaeological deposits dating to the Roman period, late 2nd -late 3rd century A.D.
Analysis of monolith tin samples indicated flood deposits of silty clays associated with a river channel dating from the Bronze Age through to the Roman periods.
A limited borehole survey indicated that the Milk Street site lay on a rise in the gravel horizon, and that a possible ancient water channel was located next to it
