Abstract Test Pitting identified Pleistocene sands in the centre and east of the Site, with four pits containing microfauna bones, 2 of which were high in quantity. There was also evidence of Post Medieval activity, consisting of furrows observed during the initial stripping of topsoil and subsoil in the area. Topsoil and subsoil were machine excavated to the depth of natural geology under the supervision of an experienced archaeologist. Forty-three test pits were hand excavated and Pleistocene sands, where encountered, were passed through a 2mm sieve on site, with material taken for processing offsite where bones were encountered.
