Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Vector title CAD data from systematic topsoil sampling survey along the HS2 Area North Route
Vector description Systematic topsoil sampling survey along the HS2 Area North Route. Eighteen test pit arrays (TPA) were machine excavated and spoil seived for finds retrieval. Most TPAs comprised a grid of 25 1m x 1m test pits covering a 1-hectare area. Finds were generally scarce, with a wide albeit thin distribution with few if any significant concentrations. The location and density of early prehistoric activity across the sampled area remains poorly understood but the overall results from the test pitting may reflect a low and nomadic population for much of prehistory. The recovery of a small quantity of Mesolithic worked flint is of significance and adds to the small but growing dataset for the West Midlands, where the Mesolithic period is still poorly understood. There were very few finds of Romano-British material, and these were restricted to pottery. Variations within the finds density along the length of the Area North route offer weak support for the notion of a north–south divide within the West Midlands during the Romano-British period. A scarcity or outright absence of finds of Saxon and later medieval date mean that no contribution has been made to research questions focussed on those periods.
