A small 'old quarry' can be seen at this location on the 1852 O.S. Map, most likely used for building stone. This quarry expanded in the late 19th century as it began to extract dolomite for the glass industry. Today a large quarry owned by Lafrage Aggregates can be seen which is extracting stone for road aggregate and some building use. |
