This quarry was first mentioned in the manorial Account Roll for 1435 - 6 under the name Whiteladies, later Wichelate Quarry. By the early 17th century this quarry was referred to as both Burford Quarry and also sometimes as Upton Quarry in various documents (Arkell 1947: 68). |
