Further Information: A large sunken hole (about 30metres deep) believed to be either an old river estuary or an old Roman Quarry. The area around Selsey Bill over 2000 years ago was dry land and it has been claimed that traces of an old Roman fort can be identified at this location in addition to rounded stones believed to be Roman cannon balls at the bottom of the hole.
