Further Information: The quarry is surrounded by once famous quarries now abandoned and there are large reserves of stone (Leary 1983: 73). This quarry may once have been named Lee's Quarry, and if this is the case then the stone was exploited for the New Bodleian library in 1939(Arkell 1947: 60).
